The Winooski Valley Park
District is a public, non-profit
corporation that was charted in 1972. It is funded by its member
communities, membership dues, grants and private donation. (Contributions
are tax-deductible.) The Park District's goals are to acquire and
manage open space, wildlife habitat, and natural areas. The Park
District's office is located at the Ethan Allen Homestead in Burlington,

The Greenway of parks provided by WVPD:
- enhances the scenic beauty of its seven member communities
- retains wildlife habitats, wetlands and floodplain
- offers opportunites for outdoor recreation close to where people live
and work
- increase the value of lands adjacent to the parks
- adds incentive for desirable businesses to locate in nearby downtown
areas
- helps to protect historic structures and site
Our parks offer cross-country ski and nature trails, picnicking facilites,
canoe and fishing accesses, scenic overlooks and public garden plots.
Over 1,700 acres have been acquired with 12 miles of shoreline along the
Winooski and Browns Rivers, Colcester Pond, and Lake Champlain. All of
the parks are free and open to the public from sunrise to sunset every
day.
WVPD's Plans for the Future Include:
- Expansion of its municipal membership base to include additional communities
along the Winooski River, extending as far as Montpelier
- Creating public parks that encourage shoreline uses compatible with
the surrounding communities and the natural environment
