As you enter the Winooski Nature Trail Park you are met with Northern
Hardwood Forest, the most common forest type in Vermont. Sugar Maples
and Northern Red Oak tower over the park visitor with many herbaceous
plants scattering the forest floor. There are a variety of mammals,
amphibians, and birds that rely on this forest type for food and shelter.
Your trip to the park will not bring an encounter with large mammals
such as moose or bear, as the parks size limits large species survival,
but you will find many Gray Squirrels and Eastern Chipmunks, and perhaps
if you are lucky a Red Fox or White-tailed Deer may dart by between
the trees.
